Basic Rules for Getting Married in Las Vegas

Getting Married in Las Vegas is a relatively simple proposition. That’s one of the reasons why so many people decide to tie the knot in Sin City. Even though a Las Vegas wedding is easy, there are a few rules by which couples need to abide in order to leave as husband and wife. Let’s look at a few of the basic rules for getting married in Las Vegas. According to the Clark County governmental bureau responsible for issuing marriage licenses, both applicants must be at least eighteen years old. Same-sex weddings are not licensed, nor are marriages between those “nearer of kin than second cousins of half blood.” If you want to have a Las Vegas wedding, you will also need to be unmarried! Getting married in Las Vegas does require identification. Your slots club card from Caesar’s Palace won’t do the trick, either. Those who lack appropriate government-issued identification may not receive a license.

This is of particular importance to those who may be planning on getting married in Las Vegas at a relatively young age--the marriage license bureau is likely to check carefully if there is any risk of either party being under age. If you are a U.S. citizen, you will need to supply your Social Security number in order to have a Las Vegas wedding. Getting married in Las Vegas requires completion of an affidavit along with the application for the license and those who don’t supply a Social Security number may be turned down. If you aren’t from the U.S.A., the authorities will understand why you can’t supply the number and will not require it. Once you get your license, you can run to the wedding chapel of your choice to exchange vows. If you don’t get it done right away, however, there is no reason to worry. You can have a Las Vegas wedding at any point within twelve months of receiving the license. Few wait that long before getting married in Las Vegas, but it is an option.

Your wedding should be a day to remember, and that’s easy to do when you are getting married in Las Vegas. You will need to abide by Clark County’s fairly non-restrictive rules, however, in order to be happily honeymooning on the Strip or walking as man and wife through the Fremont Street Experience. Investigate the rules and regulations first, and you can have a spectacular Las Vegas wedding!
